Where can you find the best burgers in Quebec?
Quebecers don’t just like burgers; they love them! Everyone has their definition of what a good burger is, and it has taken on a cult-like aspect for some people. Ingredients, size, cooking techniques, purity, originality… everything is subject to discussion, testing and, obviously, tasting. So, while it’s impossible to give out a single best burger award, here is a list of places throughout the province – some well known, some lesser known – that have been recommended by fellow burger lovers.
The classics
You can’t write an article about good burgers without mentioning a few classic institutions. Let’s start with Louis’ restaurant, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in Sherbrooke this year and offers a range of burgers, including the always very popular Gros Louis. At Victor in Quebec City, the gourmet burger has been the focus of the menu since 1991, with 17 different variations. In Montreal, you can enjoy the food at Chez Tousignant, a chef’s canteen whose short menu has conquered foodies’ discerning taste buds. A mention also goes to the smash burgers at L’Hamburger, also located on the North Shore, as well as the unforgettable burgers at Chez Simon Cantine Urbaine, which has already been the subject of one of our articles and now has four locations. Lastly, an honourable mention to the decadent burgers at Gras Dur, three-time champion of Burger Week, which is taking place this year until September 8.
